My first few days have been spent in First Aid/CPR/WHMIS, in fact it is not all over yet, I still have tomorrow to do, but it is only a half day.
The first month or so of classes will be mind numbing, full of theory classes and common sense stuff (if you're bleeding, stop it).
I walk to school with some friends, they are in culinary, but not in my group/class, they are all first years. We all live in res so we head on down together.
Lunch is delicious, sometimes. As part of our course it is "our duty" to eat at the cafeteria once a day. We get "duty cards" which are basically a punch pass. I'm trying to introduce small amounts of meat into my system with little to no success. I either end up running to the bathroom, or feeling droopy and slow the rest of the day. So I just pick around it, and stick to "tasting" the meat and not actually consuming large portions of it. (Or a small portion.) It's good, the deserts don't impress me much, we had a carrot cake yesterday that was horrible and dry. Everyone took one bite and left it. We're talking of starving college students here, so it had to have been pretty bad. Though we do get to taste test, since we have Canada's Smartest kitchen, which is a tester kitchen where big companies like Cavendish come in and try out their new products on us, the little people (aka the starving students).
So far I have had no studying needed, as FirstAid is common sense, and the test is a practical one. Today we were given scenarios and told to use our heads, we had a guy who had fallen off of his work ladder, no helmet and was bleeding severely from his lower thigh and had a deformed upper arm. First we had restrained his arm using a sling around the neck, but then we were told that if he had fallen and harmed his neck (always assume the worse) we would be putting unwanted pressure on the spine.
Since he also had cuts and scrapes on his forehead, we tied his upper arm to his head, using the sling as a bandage as well. Saving ourselves precious bandages to put under his neck and to stop his thigh from bleeding.
Our knives and whites should be showing up by the end I'm pretty excited to see how snazzy I look dressed up :)
Photo will be uploaded when it happens :D
